Job purpose

Kenya Red Cross Society has been able to engage and empower a lot of young people in the past couple of months via social media. In the onset of the Corona Virus pandemic, and with the advent of technology, the youth department has realized that maximizing on social media can help reach a vast number of youth who would otherwise have been left out in the initiatives and interventions of Kenya Red Cross Youth

The KRCS Youth Digital Media Volunteer Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing KRCY social media strategy in order to increase the online presence and improve the departments youth engagement via social media. The Volunteer Officer will be reporting to the National Youth and Innovation Officer, and working closely with the other Youth Department’s units’ team to strategize on how various initiatives can be propagated through social media

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design artworks to support various youth initiatives
  • Develop, implement and manage our social media strategy
  • Define most important social media key performer indicators (KPIs)
  • Manage and oversee social media content/ Platform
  • Measure the success of every social media campaign
  • Stay up to date with latest social media best practices and technologies
  • Use social media marketing tools such as Buffer
  • Work with content creators, video editors and graphic designers to ensure content is informative and appealing
  • Collaborate with other Youth Department Units to ensure that all initiatives have been captured, propagated or reported on social media
  • Monitor user engagement and suggest content optimization
  • Communicate with industry professionals and influencers via social media to create a strong network
  • Mentor and train others in the team and elsewhere
  • Provide constructive feedback for all initiatives and campaigns
  • Adhere to Kenya Red Cross rules and regulations, fundamental principles, Communication
  • Guidelines and other rules and regulations set by the organization
  • Consult with and present to the supervisor


Qualifications include:

  • Proven skills in Graphic and Creative Design
  • Knowledge in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or Equivalent software
  • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram and other social media best practices
  • Social Media Strategist using social media for brand awareness and impressions
  • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ and other social media best practices
  • Good understanding of social media KPIs
  • Excellent multitasking skills
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Team player
  • Good time-management skills
  • Great interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
